When AEM first released the 41-1408DS ETi (electronically tuned air intake system), with its estimated 10 horsepower and 8 ft-lb of torque at 6500 RPM, only some Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ owners were able to enjoy the boost in performance. The reason is because the 41-1408DS, at the time is was first released, was not 50 state steeet or emissions legal.

The California Air Resource Board granted the AEM's 41-1408DS air intake system for the 2013 to 2016 Scion FR-S 2.0L and the 2013 to 2016 Subaru BRZ 2.0L an Executive Order. So now customers in all 50 states can install the 41-1408DS in their 2013 to 2016 FR-S and BRZ 2.0L cars and benefit from the estimated gain of 10 horsepower and 8 ft-lb of torque at 6500 RPM.

The Scion FR-S is the sister vehicle to the Subaru BRZ and both are amazing sports cars that really bring the fun that these automotive manufactures are known for. There has been quite a bit of collaboration between Toyota and Subaru on both vehicles, resulting in the best of both worlds. Both vehicles come standard with a 2.0L DOHC VVT engine resulting in 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. With that much power in such a lightweight vehicle, just thinking about these two cars is enough to make any automotive enthusiast itching to get behind the wheel.

To increase the fun factor, horsepower and performance of the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-s, AEM offers the 41-1408DS ETi air intake system which comes with all the necessary adapters and components for an easy install. These include a HDPE (high density poly-ethylene) air intake tube that is designed to decrease restriction and increase horsepower, cold air box and Dryflow Synthetic air filter, and all of the nuts, bolts, hose clamps and connections needed to install this monster into your Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ. The Dryflow Synthetic air filter has its own benifits, in that it is a washable and reuseable air filter that can go up to 100,000 miles between cleaning, depending on driving conditions.

The benefit of the cold air box is that it helps isolate the air filter from any under-hood engine heat, protecting the much desired cold air that comes from the outside of the vehicle from being "heat soaked" by the hot underhood tempratures, thus helping to increase performance.

Another large benefit of the 41-1408DS air intake system is that is has received exemption from the California Air Resource Board for the 2013 to 2016 Subaru BRZ 2.0L and 2013 to 2016 Scion FR-S 2.0L. This exemption means that the intake system is street legal in all 50 states for these vehicles. Besides the great benifits, features and performance of the 41-1408DS air intake system, the intake is also backed by AEM's Lifetime Limited Warranty.

The 41-1408DS air intake system utilizes AEM's ETi (electronically tuned intake system) technology to improve air flow, increase horsepower reduce restriction; all while not setting a check engine light. AEM's ETI Intake System allows engineers to "super tune" an engine for even more performance by eliminating the need to down-size the tube, which can reduce the overall airflow and horsepower for the engine. Instead, the ETI electronically communicates with the MAF sensor and vehicle's computer to ensure that an accurate amount of fuel is being delivered, even though the tube is larger in size than the stock system. This means the vehicle maintains the calibration as designed by the factory while still gaining the benefits from our custom designed aftermarket air intake system.

AEM’s Chris Forsberg Finishes 3rd in Round One of 2013 Formula Drift Championship

After his 3rd place finish in Long Beach, Forsberg boosted that once he gets his car dialed in, the CFR team will be virtually unstoppable.
After his 3rd place finish in Long Beach, Forsberg boosted that once he gets his car dialed in, the CFR team will be virtually unstoppable.
There’s old sports adage that maintains championships are won and lost in the offseason. Motorsports perhaps confirms that claim more often than other competitive endeavors. With motorsports you can’t get away with merely pumping up the athlete, you also need to get his ride righteously yoked up. In the months leading up to the start of the 2013 Formula Drift Championship season, Chris Forsberg and his crew, Brian Wilkerson and Ray Shake, spent countless hours rebuilding and revamping the AEM sponsored 2012 NOS Energy Drink 370Z in preparation for the season. Upgrades to the suspension, weight reduction, steering angle and most importantly engine performance were made. The team’s Herculean offseason efforts were immediately reward with a 3rd place finish in the first round of the championship at Long Beach, California.
Forsberg faced-off against fellow Drift Alliance teammate, Vaughn Gittin Jr. in the semi-final.

After the event a confident Forsberg declared "This is definitely the best car I have ever driven, once we make a few more upgrades to the engine package, we will be unstoppable."

The CFR team plans on completing the next round of upgrades before their car hits the track for Round 2, at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia. We talked with Forsberg to get his take on the maddening mechanical anomaly that ended his Round 1 run.
The NOS Energy Drink/AEM racer plans on carrying the momentum from Long Beach with him to Round 2 at Road Atlanta.
The NOS Energy Drink/AEM racer plans on carrying the momentum from Long Beach with him to Round 2 at Road Atlanta.

In your semi-final run against Vaughn Gittin Jr. you mention a “small glitch” that cost you the race, can you address that?
“In the semi-finals when I faced Vaughn Gittin Jr, my engines computer lost sync with the crank trigger causing it to lose almost 200hp. It was an issue we were chasing all weekend and it reared its ugly head against Vaughn, who you cannot give any amount of advantage too. We were able to fix it before the consolation round and won 3rd Place!”

Tell us a bit about some of the changes you made to your car this year?
“We lightened up the car even more this offseason with several carbon fiber upgrades, aiming to place the weight in the right places for a more balanced car. We have also switched our car over to a Motec ECU system to help with the issue we were having in Long Beach.”
It’s safe to assume that Forsberg and Gittin’s paths will cross many more times during this year’s Formula Drift Championship chase.
It’s safe to assume that Forsberg and Gittin’s paths will cross many more times during this year’s Formula Drift Championship chase.

Starting the season with a podium finish bodes well for the rest of the year, what are your expectations for the next round?
“A podium finish at the first round is an amazing way to start any race season. We are very excited to know that we have a very competitive team for the 2013 championship. Atlanta is one of my favorite tracks and we have had some of our greatest successes there. I look forward to taking this momentum from Round 1 with us!”

Anything else new with you or the team you’d care to talk about?
Another big addition to our team for 2013 is having Scott Davidson as my spotter and engineer. He is the most knowledgeable man I know when it comes to chassis tuning and he has shown to be a great improvement to the drivability of our car at Long Beach.”

Scott Davidson’s expertise comes from years of oval track racing, as well as his most recent experience as a Formula Drift Crew Chief. Davidson will serve as Chris' eye in the sky, closely examining every run and helping the team make changes to the car's set-up, based on the immediate track conditions and the next opponent Forsberg will be facing. As Forsberg chases a second Formula Drift Championship this year, he and the team will remain ever vigilant in their search for the even the slightest competitive advantage.

AEM 21-8030DC Dyno for Select Model 1999 - 2007 Classic Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra Pickup Trucks

Even though General Motors released its very first pickup truck in 1930, the name "Silverado" has only been used recently to describe the trim levels for Chevrolet and GMC's popular "C" (2 wheel drive) and "K" (4 wheel drive) pickup trucks and Suburban models from 1975 to 1999. In 1999 all that changed when GM dropped the "C" and "K" model references and stuck solely with Silverado and Sierra.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 got their first major overhaul and redesign in 1999, and then received another not-as-drastic redesign in 2007.

Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks have a lot of stock options available, from transmissions to engines to performance additions making these trucks very popular as a work truck and a toy. Because of the popularity of this truck, these trucks also have a lot of aftermarket options out there including some easy to bolt on performance parts from AEM that can increase horsepower. AEM offers two main options for the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, either a drop-in Dryflow® synthetic replacement air filter or the Brute Force air intake family.

1999 through 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trucks can upgrade to an AEM high performance air filter 28-20129 as can 1999 through 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. AEM's washable Dryflow air filter does not require the use of air filter oil which makes cleaning very easy. This AEM air filter comes with AEM's Lifetime Limited Warranty, meaning that this will be the last air filter you will ever need. All AEM Dryflow performance air filters have excellent filtration and a large surface area, meaning that you can drive up to 50,000 miles before cleaning is needed, depending on driving conditions. The 28-20129 AEM Dryflow air filter was designed to seal tightly inside 1999 through 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 truck air boxes. See the Chevy Silverado 1500 air filter page and the GMC Sierra 1500 air filter page for details.

The other option is an AEM Brute Force air intake system. This is the clear choice for those that want more power and torque from their trucks. AEM air intakes provide an easy cost effective means to add performance and great looks under the hood. AEM intakes are made for specific Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 models. They reduce air restriction over the factory intake allowing your truck to run better. To see power gains, installation instructions and other details for your model go to the Chevy Silverado 1500 Air Intake page or the GMC Sierra 1500 Air Intake page.

Some AEM air intakes offer more than one tube finish choice. "DP" at the end of a part number indicates a "chrome like" finish and "DC" indicates a gunmetal gray finish. These air intake systems are also designed to last for a lifetime of use thanks to high quality components as well as the washable and reusable Dryflow air filter. These air intake systems are usually easy install, many requiring 90 minutes or less.

Each air intake system includes all of the necessary hardware, connections and hoses for installation. Each intake tube is designed to either reuse the intake mass air sensor housing or it will include a sensor specific adapter (depending on the sensor setup), making it easy to transfer the stock sensor and eliminating the need to reprogram the computer. These air intake systems also use a powder coated heat shield which is designed to help block the hot under-hood air from getting into the engine and harming performance. AEM air intake systems come with AEM's Lifetime Limited Warranty, just like the air filters. When it comes to performance, there is just no better option than AEM.

The DryFlow® air filter can go up to 100,000 miles before cleaning, depending on driving conditions. However if you tend to run in dustier than normal conditions and cleaning is taking up more time than you would like, AEM also offers the optional 1-4000 filter wrap. The air filter wrap can help extend the service life of the filter by capturing larger dirt particles before the filter. It adds minimal restriction to the air flowing into the filter. It's a win-win combination.

Hot Wheels Collectors & Performance Fans Have Six AEM Themed Cars to Find

Hot Wheels' AEM Honda S2000 die-cast cars
Elliot and Ruth Handler, the co-founders of Mattel, set out to develop a line of quality die-cast toy cars, worthy of their grandkids enjoyment. The year was 1966, and muscle cars were rolling towards their power pinnacle. The Handler's grandkids, like most kids of that era loved to play and collect die-cast cars, but the only die-cast toy cars available at the time were tiny foreign made toys lacking in the kind of quality that set the Mattel Co. apart. So, Mattel decided it would launch its own unique line of die-cast cars at its Hawthorne, California design headquarters.

The story has it that when Elliot Handler first laid eyes on designer Harry Bradley's classic Southern California hot rod in the parking lot he exclaimed, "Man, those are some hot wheels." And the Hot Wheels brand name was born. First introduced in 1968, Hot Wheels were an instant success and they continue to be every bit as hot with kids, and collectors today. In fact they have reached legendary magnitude with toy collectors.

The 1969 pink rear-loading Volkswagen Beach Bomb, for example, is the Holy Grail for Hot Wheels aficionados. It was long believed that only one hot pink rear-loading Beach Bomb existed, so when it was discovered, it's said that the current owner purchased it for a reported $72,000.

Now another Hawthorne, California company associated with high-quality standards has been chosen by the celebrated Hot Wheels brand. AEM, the company renowned for producing precision tuned air intake systems and performance Dryflow air filters, has their logo featured on several Hot Wheels toy cars. There are currently two vehicle models available, the Acura NSX and the Honda S2000. These performance vehicles are a great choice to highlight the AEM brand and their cold air intakes. AEM air intakes add power and torque to cars by reducing restriction and by feeding cooler outside air to the engine. Both Hot Wheels models come in three different colors, totaling six versions. These are truly worthy as kid's toys or as collectibles.

In 1968 the first line of sixteen Hot Wheels cars sold for 59 cents each. First off the assembly line was the Chevrolet Camaro. Next off the line came the most popular vehicle in the line's history - the Corvette. At the time Hot Wheels was so sizzling hot that the public actually saw the Hot Wheels Custom Corvette before the actual car was introduced by GM. The first ever Hot Wheels collectors' convention was held in Toledo, Ohio in 1987, and today several of the original 16 car models are considered to be extremely rare and valuable. Hot Wheels collecting is truly on an international scale today and it continues to be enjoyed by people of every age. Never underestimate the power of Hot Wheels or history - order your AEM themed cars today.
