Mayra Soriano did what she could to get that little extra umph out of her 2012 Chevy Camaro SS V8 |
Some people are evidently born with it, while for others, it comes to fruition later in life. It's not a sickness or affliction; it's more like a hunger. A hunger to fine-tune and make things faster.
That being said, even straight off of the showroom floor, a vehicle can benefit from a few changes here and there, and those with that hunger are more than eager to take the steps to get that little extra umph out of their rides.

In Mayra Soriano's case, it all began a few years back, with the Purchase of a 2010 V-6 Camaro. The car performed to factory standards, but she certainly didn't rule out making modifications.
Looking back, Soriano said, "I had always been interested in increasing performance on my prior cars. But I really didn't know what to look for. Getting a Camaro really pulls you into performance topics and conversations, much more than any other cars I had owned. So it really just pushed me to try something different.

"My husband," she added, "was originally the one who had heard of AEM products. He told me it would make the car nicer and faster, and I should look into getting an intake system. Of course I wanted a nicer and faster car, so I Googled AEM."

" I saw they really didn't really offer anything for Camaros at the time, and the 2010 model was still pretty new to the market. So I suspected pretty much the same from all of the companies out there," she continued. "AEM had a huge banner on their web page that said they were looking for Camaros for research and development for intake systems. So I took it as an opportunity."
In turn, the company developed a cold air intake to replace her stock system. Prior to the modification, the Camaro had already proven more than ample in the performance department. However, with the new AEM intake system aboard, there was a noticeable difference.

"The most noticeable gain came from the sound of the engine," Soriano recalled. "We could hear the intake breathing nicely. Looking at the aspects performance-wise, the car was much more responsive than with the stock intake when it came to take offs."
With time, came the urge to buy another vehicle, and Mayra Soriano eagerly chose a 2012 Camaro SS, equipped with a V-8 engine. She was happy with the car's performance. However, bearing in mind the benefits of her previous modification, the decision to make a few changes to the SS only made sense.

With plans to bolt on an Edelbrock Super Charger kit on the new vehicle, the AEM cold air intake designed for a stock Camaro SS would obviously no longer fit. That in mind. Soriano contacted the company with hopes that they would help her out with a custom intake. Well, AEM had no intentions of doing anything other than making their customer happy. It was a perfect opportunity for them to take advantage of a product that was fairly new to the market - the 4" Universal Intake kit, AEM-21-5011. The kit contains all of the components needed to create a custom 4" ID air intake system to work with the supercharged Camaro SS.

"Time-wise, the Edelbrock system and intake system were installed very closely together. The numbers, however, were instantly noticeable in our tablet that reads info from the OBD II. The intake air temperature in 70-degree weather was pulling in 120-degree-plus through the (stock) intake," she explained. "Now it pulls in 90 to 95-degrees. And we all know that colder air is more power.
"Of course, I know AEM did their research on the intake system when developing it, so we know that we gained the best performance over any other system out there," ensured the car owner.

In reference to making more modifications to her 2012 Camaro SS, Mayra Soriano laughingly said, "I always tell myself no,but when time passes by, you don't know if your car got slower or if you just got used to the power. I do have plans to do future modifications, even though I kept saying this would be my last mod. I recently found out that AEM came out with water/methanol injection kits and would definitely consider that in the future.
"I think AEM put it perfect," she concluded. They are engineered to outperform. I would also point out how their power increases come with a unique visually appealing system that other intake systems just can't match."
