When a car equipped with a McPherson Strut suspension system, like the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 Honda Civic or Civic Si, is being driven through a turn there is inherent flex in the strut towers and chassis. It’s not uncommon to experience as much as 1/8” of shift in the strut towers during hard cornering. This flex can result in unpredictable handling of the car. An effectively designed strut tower brace will transmit the load incurred by shifting weight between the two strut towers and reduce the effects of chassis flex.

Unfortunately, many of the aftermarket strut tower braces available have a hinged design and therefore offer little support to the strut towers. An effective strut tower brace, like those from AEM, must be rigid throughout its length. Additionally, many of the strut tower braces on the market could interfere with performance upgrades such as a cold air intake system. Ram Trucks separated from the Dodge brand in 2011 to become a stand-alone make. The Ram 1500 half ton pickup truck is rugged yet refined with advancements not found in any of its competitors’ trucks. The Ram 1500 offers a coil spring rear suspension to improve ride quality and handling without sacrificing payload capacity. Air suspension is an available option which offers automatic load leveling, lower suspension at highways speeds, and on-the-fly user adjustability. Also, the 2013 Ram 1500 was the first truck to offer keyless ignition in North America. Currently in its fourth generation of production, the Ram 1500 received minor changes for the 2013 model year. The 21-8228DC and 21-8228DP air intake systems feature an integrated heat shield to help deflect hot air from under the hood. Air then enters the relatively large and rugged AEM Dryflow air filter. The 21-2259DK Dryflow Air Filter is made with a special filtering media that exhibits a three-dimensional property which allows us to achieve high airflow and low restriction without compromising filtration efficiency or dirt holding capacity. Best of all, Dryflow Air Filter 21-2259DK is easy to wash and reuse with part number 1-1000 and does not require oil.

After clean air passes through the filter, a mandrel bent aluminum intake tube directs air into the engine. To satisfy personal preference AEM offers two durable finishes for the intake tube. 21-8228DC features a charcoal gray powdercoat finish, and 21-8228DP offers a bright, mirror-like finish. Coupling the aluminum intake tube to the throttle body is a molded bellows hose which absorbs vibration and engine flex during high-torque situations.

All of the design features of the 21-8228DC and 21-8228DP air intake systems are tuned to improve horsepower and torque delivery in the most used RPM range. On the dyno, 21-8228DC and 21-8228DP produced an estimated additional 10.2 horsepower at 5,100 rpm and an equally noticeable additional 10.5 pound-feet of torque at 5,100 rpm over the factory intake system. The Ford Motor Company developed a line of smaller twin-turbo powered engines in the quest for more power and greater fuel efficiency. Beginning with the 2011 model year, Ford transplanted the 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 into the legendary F150 half-ton pickup truck line. This engine was previously found in front wheel drive applications such as the Ford Taurus, and Ford Explorer. The F150 was the first rear wheel drive implementation of the 3.5L EcoBoost engine. F150 power output for the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 is greatly increased over the Taurus or Explorer engines and rivals that of a V8 engine. In fact, the F150 EcoBoost is estimated to make 5 more horsepower and 40 lb-ft more torque than the renowned 5.0 V8.

The AEM 21-8126DS Brute Force Air Intake System utilizes a rotational-molded polyethylene enclosed air box and intake tube to reduce restriction and increase airflow to the engine. The enclosed air box helps to maintain near ambient inlet air temperature by retaining the use of the stock cold air inlet. Additionally, a second cold air source from behind the headlight was incorporated into the design of 21-8126DS. Both laboratory and road testing were completed to ensure the AEM Air Intake System will increase performance while staying within factory operating specifications. In addition to simply increasing horsepower, lowering restriction and increasing airflow will also reduce turbo lag and help the EcoBoost twin-turbos to spool up quicker. This in turn improves acceleration and drivability.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe broke the mold for what most people expect when they picture a sport compact import car. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe doesn’t fit with the typical front drive, small displacement Honda that tuners flocked to in the beginning of the sport compact movement. Nor is the Genesis Coupe in the all-wheel-drive, and expensive, Subaru WRX STi category. With over 270 horsepower from the factory, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe boasts 70 more horsepower than its closest competitor the Scion FR-S.

The Theta 2.0 liter, 4-cylinder, Tci Turbo motor used in the Hyundai Genesis Coupe was part of a global joint engine manufacturing project. Because of this joint development process, the Genesis Coupe engine shares many components with the engine found in the Mitsubishi Evo X. To satisfy personal preference AEM offers two durable finishes for the Genesis Coupe intake. 21-728C features a charcoal gray powdercoat finish, and 21-728P offers a bright, mirror-like finish.

All of the design features of the 21-728C and 21-728P cold air intake systems are tuned to improve horsepower and torque delivery in the lower, and most used, RPM range. On the dyno, 21-728C and 21-728P produced an estimated additional 12 horsepower at 2800 rpm and an impressive 23 pound-feet of torque at 2800 rpm over the factory intake system. While AEM 21-728C and 21-728P made an estimated additional 4 horsepower at peak over stock, we feel that increased power at ridiculously high RPMs will rarely be used. In addition to simply increasing horsepower, lowering restriction and increasing airflow will also reduce turbo lag and help the Hyundai Genesis Coupe turbo to spool up quicker. This in turn improves acceleration and drivability.
