Retaining the stock air box allowed AEM Intakes designers to increase performance while keeping inlet air temperatures, and air / fuel ratios within factory specifications. Utilizing the stock air box maintains the use of the factory cold air inlet near the front wheel, without exposing the air filter to the elements. However, the best part about retaining the stock air filter box of 2010-2014 Chevy Camaro 3.6L V6 models is that AEM Intake designers were able to retain all factory connections, including stock emissions control equipment, to create a 50-state street legal air intake system.

Testing revealed that the factory maze of air intake ducting was a significant source of restriction in the stock Chevy Camaro air induction system.
