AEM Cold Air Intake Helps 2012 - 2016 Chevy Sonic Make More Horsepower

AEM Chevy Sonic Cold Air Intake 21-788C

The AEM 21-788C cold air intake system has been engineered to up the power by an estimated 10 hp in 2012-2016 Chevy Sonic models.

While the small turbocharged engine in the Chevrolet Sonic produces a significant amount of horsepower for its diminutive displacement, AEM engineers determined that the motor could generate even more power and so developed the 21-788C cold air intake.

AEM Synthetic Air Filter Cleaner 1-1000

Non-woven filter media like that used in AEM’s cold air intake System benefit from a cleaning with AEM’s proprietary Dryflow synthetic air filter cleaner.

While now called the EcoFlex, the 1.4-liter turbo inline-four in the Chevrolet Sonic produces 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque, it actually had its roots as an Opel (GM's German subsidiary) engine. First introduced in 2008, the EcoFlex features a light-weight, cast-iron engine block with an aluminum cylinder head. With dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) that actuate four-valves per cylinder, it offers the opportunity to improve its breathing that AEM engineers seek.

In AEM dyno testing a stock Sonic 1.4 turbo generated 103 rear-wheel horsepower and 109 ft-lb of torque. With the AEM 21-788C air intake system installed in the same 2015 Sonic, rear wheel output jumped an estimated 10 horsepower to 110 and torque increased from 109 to 113 ft-lb.

Central to the performance of the AEM 21-788C air intake system is the seven-inch conical air filter manufactured from non-woven synthetic filter media. The air filter is located in the original air box space and is protected by a heat shield which is designed to reduce intake air temperature and increase horsepower.

The kit comes complete with a seven-inch AEM low restriction air filter paired to a gunmetal gray powder-coated intake tube. The AEM 21-788C air intake system comes complete with all the hardware for a professional appearance. The kit also accommodates all factory emissions including the mass airflow sensor. No drilling is required as the air filter system uses the existing mounting brackets.

The do-it-yourself installation of this cold air intake system takes just about an hour, and requires no more than a handful of tools, most commonly found in just about everyone's toolbox.

The best news is that the AEM 21-788C filter element can be used for about 100,000 miles (depending upon the conditions) between cleanings. The process is simple with an application of AEM 1-1000 synthetic air filter cleaner that loosens and dissolves dirt and grime build up on the filter. After which you simply rinse the filter with water and reinstall in your vehicle.

AEM 2012 to 2015 Subaru Impreza Air Intakes Make Adding Horsepower Easy

AEM Subaru Impreza Cold Air Intake 21-783C

An AEM cold air Intake system has been proven to add an estimated 10 more horsepower to a 2012 - 2015 Subaru Impreza.

If the shortest, most efficient path between two points is a straight line, it makes you wonder what automotive engineers have in mind when they design intake air ducting. A duct with twists and turns slows down air and creates turbulence. A straight duct, on the other hand, allows for the smooth flow of air and thus a greater volume of air reaches the engine. That's the concept behind the AEM 21-772C for your 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Subaru Impreza.

AEM Synthetic Air Filter Cleaner 1-1000

AEM’s proprietary Dryflow synthetic air filter cleaner is the best way to clean your non-woven, synthetic filter.

The Subaru Impreza is powered by the FB20B 2.0 L horizontally-opposed four cylinder engine. The engine features double overhead camshafts and muscle car-like 10.5:1 compression ratio. The FB20B produces 148 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 145 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm, however, there is room for improvement. Virtually the same engine (displacement, bore, stroke, compression ratio, etc.) as installed in the Subaru XV Hybrid produces 160 horsepower.

Noting the opportunity, AEM engineers developed the 21-772C cold air intake which they tuned and dyno-tested to improve acceleration and add a nice raspy engine sound. Installation is a relatively inexpensive process, adding an estimated 10 horsepower and nearly 10 ft-lb of torque to your Subaru Impreza as shown on the AEM dynamometer. The performance increases can be achieved via a DIY installation that takes around an hour with tools just about everyone should have in their garage.

The results of AEM chassis dyno testing are that a stock Impreza 2.0L generated 116 horsepower and 111 ft-lb of torque. With the AEM 21-772C bolted to the test vehicle, horsepower jumped to 125 and torque increased to 117 ft-lb.

This noticeable improvement in power can be felt in everyday driving, whether it's accelerating away from a traffic light, margining onto a highway on ramp, or cruising along some steep roads. The key to AEM air intake systems is the non-woven synthetic filter media, a modern solution for controlling the quality of air that passes through it. The seven-inch AEM conical filter helps protect your engine from harmful road grit, and it's mounted right at the front of the car where it can take full advantage of the cool incoming air, protected by a shield to keep underhood heat out of the intake air.

The air intake system comes complete with a seven-inch AEM low restriction air filter paired to a high quality, gunmetal grey finished intake tube. The AEM 21-772C air intake come with the necessary boots, clamps, and hardware for an OEM-type appearance. The kit also accommodates all factory emissions and vacuum lines. Existing mounting points are used for simple installation.

Your AEM 21-772C is good for around 100,000 miles (depending upon your driving conditions) between cleanings. Clean-up is easy with an application of AEM 1-1000 synthetic air filter cleaner that loosens and dissolves dirt and grime build up on synthetic filters. Then you simply rinse the unit with water, let it air dry, and reinstall.

AEM Air Intake System 21-772C fits the following Subaru Impreza models:
2015 SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0L
2014 SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0L
2013 SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0L
2012 SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0L

2014, 2015 and 2016 Mazda 6 AEM Cold Air Intake Delivers More Horsepower and Torque

AEM 21-779C cold air intake for Mazda 6 2.5L 4-cylinder

The AEM 21-779C for Mazda 6 2.5L 4-cylinder engines comprises a mandrel-bent aluminum air intake tube and oversized Dryflow synthetic, washable, reusable air filter with a heat shield that
protects the filter.

If you are a driver's driver, a family sedan is probably not your first vehicle of choice, but what if a 3,200-lb. four-door could accelerate 0-60 mph in as little as 7.5 seconds, brake in about 128 ft., and get nearly 25 mpg in town? The third-generation Mazda 6 can do this, and more, and engage even the most dutiful operator in a real driving experience.

While aimed at those who occupy that wide middle of the road with the moms and dads who must conscientiously transport their most precious cargo: their children, the Mazda 6 is intended to be fun to drive.

Derived from the Mazda 626 and earlier mid-size 6es, this upsized iteration retains a certain joie de vivre with precise handling, sporty (harder) suspension for a good road feel and notable throttle response that sets it apart from bread-and-butter transporters.

AEM 21-779C cold air intake for Mazda 6 2.5L 4-cylinder

Dynamometer test results for a 2014 Mazda 6 engine running at 2700 rpm, gain an estimated 7 hp and at 3200 rpm, an increase of an estimated 8 ft-lb of torque.

That the car also employs antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a rearview camera, and optional rear parking sensors across all trims has been commended. Available in Touring and standard in Grand Touring trims are blind-spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring and a frontal collision mitigation system using an infrared laser sensor to detect an imminent collision are real-time performance and safety advantages. Further on the safety front, in 2015 the Mazda 6 achieved a five-star rating in government crash tests and the highest rating of "good" in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's strength tests.

Power for all trims of U.S. cars is, as of 2015, a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that sends 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels with either a six-speed manual or automatic, with or without options, fulfills its mission admirably. Adding the i-ELOOP (available in Grand Touring trim) allows kinetic energy generated under braking to produce electricity that can later be used to power headlights, audio, and climate control systems, and increases engine efficiency.

2016 Acura ILX with AEM Cold Air Intake Unleashes Acura Potential

AEM 21-784C cold air intake for the 2016 Acura ILX 2.4L L4

The intake system features an oversized, synthetic Dryflow air filter and gray powder coated tube for a stylish addition to your ILX.

One of the first steps you can take to improve your engine's performance is to help the engine breathe easier. Doing so is not overly difficult, the addition of a cold air intake system that replaces the stock air filter setup will help bring fresher, cooler air into your engine. All it takes is a few tools, and a little bit of time. An example of one of these systems is the 21-784C from AEM.

AEM 21-784C cold air intake designed for the 2016 Acura ILX 2.4L L4

Since the 21-784C was designed specifically for the 2016 Acura ILX, it has accommodations for the factory MAF sensor and PCV hose.

A cold air intake not only simplifies the route the air takes to reach the engine, it also increases the volume of air. Another benefit of the cold air intake, and the reason for its name is that it isolates the air filter from the engine, lowering the overall temperature of the air coming in.

The AEM 21-784C system replaces the stock air box and air tube with a new intake in the original location. A specialized heatshield keeps the oversized AEM Dryflow air filter isolated form the engine's heat. Cooler air is denser and that density means an increase in oxygen. It is the oxygen that mixes with the fuel and burns, causing combustion and all the fun stuff when you're accelerating.

AEM 21-784C cold air intake installed in engine bay of 2016 Acura ILX 2.4L L4

The kit fits in the stock intake location and the fit and finish is top notch.

The synthetic, washable AEM Dryflow air filter is extremely durable. Under normal conditions, most of them do not need to be cleaned for 100,000 miles. The air intake itself is mandrel-bent aluminum that is designed to use the stock mass air flow sensor and PCV hose. The intake is powder coated in gunmetal gray, and the filter is red in color, making for a stylish and functional addition under the hood.

The Acura ILX is a sporty little sedan that features an 8-speed transmission utilizing Acura's Dual Clutch Technology (DCT) system. The DCT system was born in Honda's racing efforts and quickly found its way into all levels of automotive, as well as motorcycle and ATVs. It has proven to be a very efficient way to transfer power, allowing smaller engines to feel much bigger. In stock form the ILX is rated at 201 horsepower. The estimated horsepower gain from the AEM intake is an additional 15 horsepower. Of course, results vary, but image how that boost will feel behind the wheel?

The AEM 21-784C cold air intake fits the 2016 Acura ILX 2.4L L4. To find out what other products AEM makes for your car, use the Search by Vehicle tool or to find a local dealer, use the Dealer Locator tool.

Featuring a Dryflow synthetic material, the 21-2138DK can be the quick, easy to install and maintain, and long lasting filter that you need for your project.

As a clamp-on replacement filter, the dual-flange 21-2138DK is versatile, efficient, and immediately brings increased filtration and better performance to your vehicle. For the F150 with the 21-8128DC air intake system, that means an estimated additional 17 horsepower and 18 pound-feet of torque at 5200rpm over the factory system.

Your vehicle's induction system will be better protected from whatever comes at it thanks to AEM's next generation filter media and high-volume construction. The top cap is rubber and the flanges are metal and fit inside the stock air box or directly onto the 21-8128DC intake, inside the heat shield. Designed in collaboration with K&N, the inventor of high-flow air filters, the specialized non-woven lofted synthetic material utilizes a structural aluminum screen for structural strength.

The filter does not utilize oil so it is easier to clean and reuse, so it can come back refreshed and ready to work for as long as you need it. AEM recommends using its 1-1000 air filter cleaner on both the inside and outside to loosen grime and dirt before rinsing it with water. Use cool or warm (never hot) water and gently shake it off. Allow the filter to air dry and it can even be replaced if it is slightly damp. The cleaner comes with its own instruction sheet and there is a video online for additional guidance.

When spring service time rolls around again, your car or truck should have had many months of clean, free-flowing air and a healthier intake system, minimizing this part of your maintenance routine.

When you're ready to get your 21-2138DK, use the AEM online Product Search or locate a dealer near you by using the AEM Dealer Search.
