Many consider the mid to late 1960's the beginning of the muscle car era. In 1964, the Ford Motor Company released its Ford Mustang. The Mustang is still coined the originator of the "Pony Car" class of American automobiles. The Mustang however would not be the only offering in this popular class as General Motors quickly reacted by debuting their Chevrolet Camaro for the 1967 model year. In response to the Mustang and Camaro, the Chrysler Corporation followed suit by introducing the Dodge Challenger. With muscle cars available from each of the Big Three, the rest is history.

Know When to Service Your Air Filter with AEM's New Line of Filter Minder Gauges

Remote Mounted Gauge 30-5111 10" H20

Vehicles today have an indicator light or gauge dedicated for just about anything. Many late-model vehicles feature readouts for tire pressure, gas mileage, they'll even tell you if you've forgotten to tighten the gas cap! Oddly enough, when it comes to knowing when to service the air filter, one of the most important components of a vehicle, you're left on your own. For many, knowing when to clean your vehicle's air filter can be tricky.

Some of the typical questions when it comes to servicing air filters are: How many miles can I go between service intervals? Do I service the air filter when it looks dirty? Does it look dirty? Can my air filter be clogged? In addition to these very valid questions, air filters are not always easily accessible to determine if they should be serviced or not.  In most cold air intake system setups, the front bumper and/or wheel well liner needs to be removed just to simply inspect the air filter.

With AEM's new line of Filter Minder® gauges, the guesswork has been eliminated when it comes to knowing if it's time to service your air filter. AEM's new Filter Minder gauges are an air filter service indicator. They constantly monitor airflow and the gradual increase of air filter restriction.

As an air filter becomes dirty it holds much of the dirt and debris that was kept out of your engine. With this additional dirt and debris in the way the air filter gets restricted. The Filter Minder gauge senses this restriction.  Its needle displays the current condition of your air filter. When the air filter is clean and has little restriction, the needle will stay in the green section of the gauge. As the air filter moves through its service interval it will move into the yellow section. Once the Filter Minder needle reaches the red zone it's time to service your filter and reset the Filter Minder gauge.

AEM currently has three Filter Minder gauges available.  The dash mounted Filter Minder gauge (part 30-5110) is designed for mounting inside the cabin of your vehicle. The dash mounted gauge includes all the necessary hardware for mounting. Ten feet of vacuum hose and bezels in silver and black are included so the gauge can be customized to match the interior of your vehicle.

AEM also offers remote mounted Filter Minder gauges for easy mounting in the engine bay of your vehicle. Two remote mounted gauges are available.  The 30-5111 is the standard remote mounted gauge suitable for most applications.  It like part 30-5110 is designed to show a red indication at a pressure of approximately 10 inches of water.  The 30-5121 remote mounted gauge is designed for heavy-duty diesel applications where a pressure drop of less than 20 inches of water is acceptable.  These remote mounted systems come with all necessary hardware, including a support bracket for mounting and 36 inches of vacuum hose.

All AEM Filter Minder gauges are easily installed by tapping into a vacuum source on the lid of the air filter then connecting the vacuum hose to the back of the Filter Minder gauge. Each system comes complete with detailed installation instructions.

Hyundai is making a move with their 2010, 2011 and 2012 Genesis Coupe to compete with other performance cars like the Mustang and the Camaro. The Genesis Coupe sports a 3.8 liter V6 engine with more than 300 horsepower. It is a rear drive sports coupe with a price that demands attention.

AEM has designed a cold air intake for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe with 3.8 liter V6 engine to give it even more power. While the engine compartment isn't cramped there isn't a clear short path to cooler outside air under the Genesis coupe's hood. AEM engineers got around this by designing a new washer bottle with an indention giving the intake tube the clearance needed. The re-designed washer bottle is included with the air intake. That's a design we call "Engineered to Outperform".

This AEM cold air intake for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Hyundai Genesis coupe with 3.8 liter engine is available in a gunmetal gray finish (part 21-688C) and a polished finish (part 21-688P). The smooth mandrel-bent aluminum air intake tubes and large AEM DryFlow air filter in these intakes replace the restrictive factory equipment allowing more power to the wheels. AEM dynamometer test results show a 13 horsepower gain at 5800 RPM's.

AEM Intake Systems are designed to produce horsepower and torque gains as well as better engine sound when used as a replacement for the factory airbox and air filter. AEM DryFlow air filters can be washed and used over and over again. They are made in the USA and come with a limited lifetime warranty as do all AEM air intakes.

Most of the 21-688C and 21-688P installation utilizes common tools, however, the front tire is removed to secure the lower part of the cold air intake. For full installation details review the instruction sheet.

AEM 21-686P Cold Air Intake System for 2006-2011 Honda Civic with the 1.8L engine with polished finish.
The infamous Honda Civic… this car has been around for as long as most of us can remember. Honda first introduced the Civic as a two-door coupe in the early 70’s and ever since its release the Civic has been one of the best-selling compact cars of all time. Fast-forward almost 40 years and the Civic attracts a variety of drivers. You can see the Civic being driven by anyone from young adults that recognize its sporty side to elderly folks that want a car with good MPGs.

Well, a small displacement engine such as the Civic’s 1.8-liter four cylinder that gets good gas mileage (~29 MPG) often leaves the driver with a desire for more power. In the case of the Civic, there happens to be additional horsepower ready to be unleashed. AEM recognized the car’s need for an air intake system and designed a Cold Air Intake System for the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 Honda Civic with the 1.8-liter engine. This cold air intake comes in two finishes. Part number 21-686C has a gunmetal finish and part number 21-686P has a polished finish. During the design phases, AEM was able to not only design a more efficient air intake system that looks and sounds great, the design also added significant horsepower to the 1.8-liter powerplant.

21-686C increased horsepower by 4 HP @ 3,800 RPM
21-686C and 21-686P increased horsepower by 4 HP @ 3,800 RPM

This AEM Cold Air Intake System completely replaces the restrictive factory intake system of the Honda Civic. By replacing the factory airbox and air filter with a mandrel-bent aluminum intake tube that optimizes airflow and filtration more power was gained.  AEM’s dyno tests have recorded a 4 horsepower increase at 3,800 RPM on the 2006-2011 Honda Civic 1.8L. This increase in horsepower brings the stock baseline power of 98 wheel horsepower up to 102 wheel horsepower with the AEM  Cold Air Intake System installed.

The 21-686C and 21-686C intakes route an AEM Dryflow 21-201DK air filter in the wheel well where the air filter can draw cool air safely. The 21-201DK air filter features a flange inside diameter of 2.5-inches (64mm) and an overall height of 5.125-inches (130mm). The oil-free DRYFLOW technology is extremely durable and easy to clean.
