Shawn Lisjack Makes Car History with World's First Fully Hand Engraved EG Honda Civic

The artist and visionary scientist did not compartmentalize these two disciplines, he in fact revealed them to be his primary guiding principles, as he repeatedly proved that the definitive qualities of the mechanical world and the infinite possibilities of art, dance to the same beat. Blurred lines - that's what contemporary car modification exercises - between leading edge automotive wizardry and present-day artistic expressions. And, Artist/Designer/C.E.O. of Exotic Engravings, Shawn Lisjack, has literally etched his own uniquely personalized niche for art-tomotive, car-ativeness.
"When it comes to hand engraving, I am completely self taught," states Lisjack. "2007 is when I first started experimenting on various mediums with Dremel tools and accessories. My idea for hand engraving on an entire car came to me when I began engraving, but at that time, I had very little experience. More practice, technique, and skill were definitely needed before taking on such a feat. After thousands of hand engraving hours, I felt more than comfortable to start hand engraving on an entire car. Then in 2010 the Engraved EG, the ‘World's First Fully Hand Engraved Car' project was born. Currently, there are well over 5,500 hand engraving hours invested into the Engraved EG." The Engraved EG is a custom built fully sponsored 1992 Honda Civic Hatchback VX (EG). The purpose of this unique one-of-a-kind vehicle is to display multiple (hand engraved) company logos, such as AEM, and showcasing high quality sponsored products, in order to help facilitate contributing brand name awareness.
"The 2012 SEMA Show was an incredible experience for me, as well as for the Engraved EG," says Lisjack. "SEMA is by far my favorite event to attend. I met so many great people/automotive enthusiasts during the show last year and I answered as many questions as I could about the Engraved EG project. At times it did get a little overwhelming. 2013 will be the second year in a row in which the Engraved EG will be making an appearance. I can't wait to meet more of the Engraved EG fans and visit with all of the car's sponsors." Since 2007 Lisjack has created well over 200 original hand engraved pieces, using various mediums including raw and painted aluminum, sheet metal, wood, marble, glass, mirrors, racing helmets, acrylic, carbon steel, carbon fiber sheets, car parts, Zippo lighters, watches, iPad's, iPhone cases. "Most of my artworks are automotive themed," adds Lisjack, "but I have also engraved company logos, animals, flowers, plants, portraits, and much more." Lisjack may have home-schooled himself about the virtues of the Dremel, but his leanings toward the artist light have been with him since early on. "As a child, I used coloring books, watercolors, pencils, markers, and chalk to create works of art," explains Lisjack. "My idea to start hand engraving began when I came across an old ‘Scratch Art' piece of artwork that I created back in high school. Scratch art paper is a fairly thick piece of paper with multiple layers. Once the top layer is scratched away, the bottom layer is revealed. The top layer of scratch paper is typically black or a dark color. The bottom layer is a contrasting color. (Colored, multi-colored, silver, gold, etc.)."
Lisjack is essentially and effectively tattooing an assortment of objects, including an entire car, so it's reasonable to assume the demands for his artwork are increasing. "Ever since the Engraved EG was on the front page of Yahoo for two days (April 2013), it has been receiving a lot of attention," confirms Lisjack. "Many fans/people have inquired about having custom hand engraving work done on their cars, but a high percentage of those people have declined due to the cost. Custom hand engravings can be very expensive. I do work with those clients however, so I can keep them within their budget. That way anyone can have an opportunity to own a piece of my custom engraving work." The next big show the Engraved EG and Shawn Lisjack will be attending is the 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 5 - 8, 2013.
