John Pangilinan's Latest Project Car at SEMA Was 2012 Ford Focus
- Nov 22, 2011
John's beautiful Focus project car was inspired by not only modern American trends, but also by classic European styles, most notably of which is the timeless British Racing green. The car also benefitted from some famous inspirations. "I was inspired by a classic Jaguar in Ralph Lauren's personal collection," Pangilinan said. "And also by some classic Porsche's I've been looking at lately. I was really influenced by the new generation of tuners that use their show cars as daily drivers. The car becomes a part of their active lifestyle. They can drive it to work, to the beach on the weekend, and then to a car show and display it as well." Pangilinan and his company, The ID Agency, began work on this particular Ford Focus as soon as it arrived at their shop, and the precision is evident everywhere you look. "It all starts with an overall concept and working with my illustrator, Jon Sibal, to create the rendering," Pangilinan stated.
After the rendition was approved, The ID Agency team went to work, installing a custom carbon fiber Downforce bodykit, an AEM Cold Air Intake and a Magnaflow exhaust for additional performance and reliability, Brembo Brakes, HRE Wheels, and a KW Suspension. The interior benefitted from Recaro Sportster seats and re-upholstery from Top Stitch along with a Kicker Car Audio sound system. The custom interior and Downforce bodykit made the car stand out from others according to Pangilinan. Out of all of the products used on the 2012 Focus, the AEM Cold Air Intake was one of the easiest decisions. "AEM has always been known for quality products and proven performance. I pride myself in being able to work with the top brands in the industry and AEM is definitely one of them."
Pangilinan started creating project cars about 10 years ago, and has many famous cars to his credit. Pangilinan vehicles have won 1st place in the Scion Tuner Challenge in 2008 and 2nd place in the 2010 Battle of Champions. His work has been featured on the cover of DUB Magazine, but none of those accomplishments match what his most notable creation has done. Pangilinan has a BMW that collected over 60 trophies at car shows, and was voted the Best BMW in the Nation at one point. The car retired after appearing in several commercials and a short cameo in the 2005 Lindsay Lohan film "Herbie Fully Loaded." The ID Agency specializes in much more than project car creation. A full-service marketing company, The ID Agency builds brands using an array of traditional marketing services complemented with street-tested guerrilla tactics. The company strives to create and inspire an authentic experience for the brands they work with. The 2012 Ford Focus project car was the second time AEM has worked with Pangilinan. In 2010, AEM sponsored a Scion TC for the Scion Tuner Challenge. The vehicle had a motorsports inspiration and was successful both on and off the track thanks to AEM's support. After a hectic SEMA Show, the Focus now sits at The ID Agency's office, where John and his team continue to maintain it, and occasionally take it for a drive, catching everyone's eyes in the same way it did at SEMA. After a holiday break, John will be right back at it, enjoying a hobby that has turned into a promising career. "I'm just thankful to be in a position to build project vehicles as its been one of my passions over the years, and now I've been able to turn it into a career."
