Joey Seely's Bright Red Highly Modified Porsche 911 Carrera was Built for SEMA 2012

Joey Seely's salaciously red 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera made a solid case for that scholastic conclusion at the 2012 SEMA show, as it drew a steady flow of gawkers and dreamers to their booth. This was Seely's fifth trip to the Las Vegas SEMA extravaganza. "This project was dear to my heart, not just because it is my personal car, but it is a combination of what BBi (Autosport) and our partners can accomplish. Our vendors really came through for us to get the best products on the car possible, in a timely manner. It embodies everything we stand for," remarked Seely. Seely is one of the owners of BBi Autosport in Huntington Beach, California. "In our world of aftermarket tuning, good quality and craft have been let go in the name of cheapness and convenience. Where others strive to find cheaper materials and processes, we strive to find superior ingredients and time consuming rituals that will guarantee a product built solely on passion, artistry and craft."
Seely and his partner have a combined 25 years of experience with building special project vehicles steeped with creativity and originality. "Our background is professional sports car racing, and I would say our specialty is fully engineering cars, from engine builds to chassis tuning," Seely explains. "We're like the old Italian guy tailoring suits for the ultra-wealthy. We tailor cars for our customers, be it something simple like exhaust tips or a full ground up track ready race car. We take pride in our work, so the customers that buy exhaust tips from us feel the same way about bbi's products, as the people who have full engine builds and the whole nine yards."
The most difficult part of the building Carrera was the hand shaped flares and the roof. Seely adds "The metal work required roughly 100 hours. It takes a lot of preparation. The car was completely rebuilt in every aspect over the course of 11 months. Two weeks prior to SEMA the car was just a rolling chassis, it took a lot of sleepless nights and perseverance getting the car show ready, but the result was well worth the time and effort put in by our team." "The inspiration was to build an old 911 to match the performance of the new GT3s. We wanted more horsepower and a lighter chassis. We brought a classic that was the benchmark of its day back to compete with modern vehicles.
An AEM stand-alone ECU was used for its versatility and superior engine management, and an AEM Dryflow air filter was used because, as Seely sees it, "nothing in the market place can flow as well and not pass dirt. We have been using AEM air filters for the last two years or so on all of our custom turbo induction systems." The bright red Porsche is getting lots of press according to Seely. "Before this current build it was on the cover of the November 2011 issue of European Car. It was chosen this year at SEMA to compete at the Optima Ultimate Street car Challenge and was a top 10 finisher in two events." For 2013 Seely says his goal is to continue to refine the car and to attend as many track events as possible.
