When the IS 200t replaced the IS 250 in the 2015 model year, Lexus swapped out the 204 horsepower V6 of the IS 250 with a more sophisticated and powerful four-cylinder turbocharged engine that develops 241 horsepower. And with a simple, inexpensive and easy to install AEM 22-692C cold air intake, you can add 10 more horsepower at the rear wheels of your 2016 IS 200t.

The Toyota 8AR-FTS 2.0L inline four-cylinder DOHC engine features twin direct and port fuel injection, VVT-iW, and a twin-scroll turbocharger designed in-house by Toyota rather than by an outside supplier. Compressed intake air passes through a liquid-cooled intercooler that lowers intake air temperature before it enters the combustion chamber. On the exit side of the turbo, a variable wastegate valve improves efficiency. The engine is backed by an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission.

With the AEM 22-692C air intake system installed, intake air enters the system through the 28-20452 AEM air filter, which is installed in the original factory air box and replaces the OEM panel air filter.

Intake air exits the filter and travels through a free-flowing aluminum intake tube that easily connects to your vehicle’s factory air box and engine throttle body to significantly increase air flow into your Lexus engine. With more air flowing through the custom gun metal gray intake tube, the engine develops 10 more horsepower and 8 ft-lbs of torque when measured at the rear wheels. Further, the AEM air intake system accommodates the 8AR-FTS engine’s factory engine breather hose.

With only eight parts, four of which are clamps, the AEM 22-692C cold air intake is a relatively straightforward DIY modification that takes less than a Saturday morning to install, even for someone with little mechanical experience. Tools required are limited to a screwdriver, pliers, and a ratchet with 8 mm and 10 mm sockets; tools just about everyone has in their garage. The AEM 22-692C utilizes only the factory mounting points, so no drilling is required.

Your AEM 28-20452 panel air filter is also washable and reusable. Cleaning consists of an application of AEM 1-1000 synthetic air filter cleaner, which will loosen and dissolve grime and dirt built up on the filter, after which the filter need only be rinsed with water, dried, and reinstalled.
