Derek West Drives AEM Equipped Pro 4400 Ultra4 to Win the W.E.Rock Dirt Riot Race

AEM sponsored Derek West wanted to try the car in tight woods racing, and headed to Jacksonville, Alabama for the W.E.Rock Dirt Riot Southeast round one race at ChoccoLocco Mountain
Following a successful 2015 King of the Hammers (KOH) 4400 class 5th place finish AEM sponsored driver Derek West drove his AEM equipped Ultra4 car to win the Dirt Riot 4400 class race in Jacksonville, Alabama. Derek West entered the 2015 King of the Hammers with a brand new Jimmy’s 4x4 Ultra4 4400 car built from the chassis up in less than six weeks. Derek had a mere one hour of run time on the car heading into the big KOH race and had very little time to test or tune the car. The King of the Hammers is a race of attrition with mechanical failures being the number one cause of the dreaded “Did Not Finish” or DNF on the results board. Derek West and his co-pilot weren’t immune to their share of mechanical gremlins during their KOH race; however they pulled it together for a very respectable top five finish.

After the 2015 King of the Hammers, Derek’s team got the Jimmy’s 4x4 built Nitto Tire/NorthStar Battery car back in tip top shape. They decided some more testing was needed and what better way to run a car through its paces than by entering another race. Derek and his team decided to see what the car could do in some tight woods racing, and headed to Jacksonville, Alabama for the W.E.Rock Dirt Riot Southeast round one race at ChoccoLocco Mountain. Derek was worried that the new car’s extra width might limit his ability to negotiate a tight woods course at speed; however it proved to be a non-issue during the race. Derek was able to drive the new AEM filters equipped Jimmy’s 4x4 built Nitto Tire/NorthStar Battery car through the trees just as well as he had done in the past.

The winner of each class was determined by the most number of laps completed in the least amount of time. Derek and his co-driver, Wes Choate from Sho-Me Speed, completed seven laps of the Dirt Riot endurance race at Choccolocco mountain in just over 1 hour and 2 minutes. Derek and Wes were nearly four minutes ahead of Jason Shipman in the 4414 car. “I was really itching to get out and continue testing and tweaking on this new car. While we had a good finish at KOH we had enough issues before the race that we just didn't have the test time in that we wanted,” said Derek West.
"The Nitto Tire / NorthStar Battery car performed flawlessly today, I am ready to start turning up the horsepower now to get ready for the Ultra4 Stampede event", said Derek. Derek West will kick off the Ultra4 racing 2015 Trail Gear Western Regional Series with the MetalCloak Stampede in Sacramento, California 5/8/15 – 5/9/15.
