AEM ETI Performance Air Intake Increases Horsepower in 2013-2016 Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ
- Mar 11, 2013
In a joint venture between Toyota and Subaru, the FR-S/BRZ delivers an aggressive body style coupled with a rear wheel drive platform to cater to the true sports car enthusiast. The engineers for the FR-S engineered this sporty legacy with excellent weight distribution and a lower center of gravity. When you combine Subaru's 2.0 liter flat four boxer engine and Toyota's port and direct cylinder injection which supports an incredible 12.5:1 compression ratio, the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ is no slouch off the line. Drivers from all over are clamorring to test drive the FR-S/BRZ and driveways are filling up with this performance addition, so in order to stand out from the crowd, aftermarket modifications will be in demand. The same levels of precision engineering and product development offered in the FR-S and BRZ, can be can be found in AEM's air intake system which delivers substantial gains in horsepower and torque. AEM 41-1408DS is an Electronically Tuned Intake (ETI) system engineered specifically for 2013 to 2016 Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ models with the 2.0 liter engine. The AEM intake system can be installed in around a half hour using simple hand tools. AEM determined the engine could see performance gains with a larger diameter intake and less restriction so a larger intake duct was used in conjunction with an AEM ETI module to correct the mass air flow (MAF) signal to the electronic control unit (ECU). The ETI module allows the ECU to maintain the calibration as the factory intended it to be and eliminates a check engine light activation.
Allowing more air to the motor is important for improving power, but the air needs to be clean. AEM includes with the system a Dryflow washable and reusable air filter (part number 21-203DK) offering excellent filtration efficiency against harmful dirt particles. The 41-1408DS ETI system also utilizes a unique closed airbox design to insulate both the air filter and the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ mass air sensor from engine heat. CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis was used extensively to ensure maximum flow into the intake air box and to provide even flow distribution around the filter in the air box. Overall the FR-S/BRZ produced an estimated 10 HP and 8.3 lbs./ft. torque @ 6500 RPM when dyno tested with the AEM intake installed.
"AEM has big plans for the company's FR-S," stated AEM Brand Manager George Hsieh. "The FR-S has a rich legacy that makes this car unique for today's drivers. With the three iterations of this model being the FR-S, the BRZ and the Japanese GT86, drivers everywhere are getting excited about this new application." Hsieh also went on to report more information about AEM's Scion FR-S. "We have been taking the company FR-S to shows like SEMA and races all over the west coast to show the great modifications that are becoming available for this vehicle from AEM and other aftermarket manufacturers." The AEM FR-S was used extensively for testing and development of the air intake AEM offers to all drivers. AEM ETI Air Intake System 41-1408DS will fit the following Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ models: 2016 SUBARU BRZ 2.0L H4 2016 SCION FR-S 2.0L H4 2015 SUBARU BRZ 2.0L H4 2015 SCION FR-S 2.0L H4 2014 SUBARU BRZ 2.0L H4 2014 SCION FR-S 2.0L H4 2013 SUBARU BRZ 2.0L H4 2013 to 2016 Scion FR-S 2.0L H4 For all AEM products for any vehicle, use the AEM Product Search.
