2015 Chevy Colorado & GMC Canyon 2.5L L4 Bolts On More Power With AEM CAI

The Chevrolet Colorado and its mechanical twin the GMC Canyon were introduced in 2004 as a replacement for the outdated Chevy S-10 and GMC Sonoma pickup trucks. Many factors led to a slump in mid-size pickup sales for all the major auto manufacturers which lead Chevy, Ford, and Dodge to pull out of the mid-size truck market. After a three-year absence from the United States the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon were reintroduced for the 2015 model year and are the first all-new mid-size pickup truck of any auto manufacturer in over a decade.
The standard engine for the 2015 Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon is a 2.5L Ecotec inline four cylinder engine which first debuted in the 2013 Chevy Malibu and the Cadillac ATS. The 2.5L Ecotec engine features direct injection, variable valve timing and dual overhead camshafts (DOHC). This technology results in a rated 200 horsepower, and 191 lb-ft of torque from the factory. The Colorado and Canyon’s 2.5L base engine is a far cry from the underpowered inline fours of yesteryear and still earned an EPA estimated 27 highway MPG. One look under the hood of a 2015 Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon 2.5L and AEM engineers knew that increased performance was just a simple bolt-on AEM cold air intake away. An AEM intake replaces the restrictive factory air intake ducting, sound resonator chamber, and the enclosed air filter box with new components from AEM. An AEM cold air intake system utilizes a free-flowing mandrel bent aluminum AEM air intake tube and a large open element reusable AEM Dryflow® air filter to minimize restriction, straighten airflow, and increase the amount of airflow available to the engine. More air and less restriction means more usable power throughout the engine’s RPM range by reducing the amount of energy spent on drawing air into the engine.
An additional feature of the AEM cold air intake system for 2015 Chevy Colorado 2.5L or 2015 GMC Canyon 2.5L pickups is an application specific AEM embossed air filter heat shield. The 2015 Colorado and Canyon AEM air filter heat shield is designed to mount on the lower half of the factory air filter box. This has the advantage of reusing the factory cold air inlet, while also protecting the AEM Dryflow air filter from splashes of mud, water, and of course engine heat. All of these design features are engineered, and tested, to work together as an easy to install bolt-on performance upgrade for 2015 Chevy Colorado 2.5L or 2015 GMC Canyon 2.5L trucks.
Significant increases in horsepower and torque were seen when AEM cold air intake 21-8035DC was installed and dyno tested on a stock 2015 Chevrolet Colorado 2.5L automatic. This air intake system was able to free up an estimated additional 8 horsepower and 10 lb-ft of torque at 4,100 RPM. Performance gains were seen across the entire RPM range and with an over 6,000 RPM redline, this peak gain at 4,100 RPM will come into use more often than not.
