2014-2016 Ford Fiesta ST 1.6L Turbo AEM Performance Short Ram Intake Gives Power Boost
- Dec 4, 2014
Until recently the USDM wouldn’t have considered the Ford Fiesta a sport compact performance car. However, the 197 horsepower Ford Fiesta ST is sure to make sport compact tuners look at the Fiesta a little differently. The 2014, 2015 and 2016 Ford Fiesta ST is powered by a 1.6L Ti-VCT turbocharged direct injection EcoBoost I-4 engine and at 2,700 lbs the Fiesta ST is said to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in just 6.7 seconds with a top speed of 143 MPH. Such an advanced engine should be treated to one of the most well designed short ram air intake systems on the market.
Advanced Engine Management (AEM) has been in the aftermarket air intake market since 1994. AEM has a solid reputation for making power gains in usable RPM ranges. AEM Intakes has once again stepped up to the plate with short ram air intake 21-737WR. Dyno testing on the 21-737WR short ram intake was performed to support AEM’s goal of increased horsepower where it is needed most. AEM dyno tests prove that the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Ford Fiesta ST short ram air intake produced an estimated maximum gain of 7 horsepower @ 3,600 RPM and an estimated increased in torque of 10 ft-lbs @ 3,600 RPM. Horsepower and torque increases were seen throughout the entire RPM range; however a max gain at 3,600 RPM is going to be most beneficial during normal driving. The AEM short ram intake design for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Ford Fiesta ST 1.6L EcoBoost positions the AEM Dryflow Air Filter in a location near the front of the car to help pull fresh air from the factory cold air intake scoop in the engine compartment. Bringing in cooler outside air can result in more power. The AEM synthetic Dryflow air filter is designed for low restriction without compromising engine protection. The 2014, 2015 and 2016 Ford Fiesta ST 1.6L EcoBoost short ram intake Dryflow filter is washable and reusable. An AEM dry filter uses a synthetic filter media and does not require oil allowing for quick, easy cleaning. An application specific powder coated aluminum heat shield is included in the AEM short ram intake for Ford Fiesta ST models to help prevent engine heat from increasing the inlet air temperature. "Excellent air inlet temperature management ensures consistent and reliable power," says product engineer John Concialdi.
A mandrel bent aluminum air intake tube is utilized to direct cool intake air smoothly from the AEM Dryflow filter and into the turbocharger. This aluminum intake tube is protected by a wrinkle-red powdercoat finish to ensure the AEM short ram intake will look just as good as it performs. The wrinkle-red powercoat finish was chosen in order to give the Fiesta ST a race inspired look under the hood. The entire AEM short ram intake, as well as the AEM Dryflow air filter, is backed by the AEM limited lifetime warranty. The 21-737WR short ram intake system is a perfect upgrade for any 2014, 2015 and 2016 Ford Fiesta ST 1.6L EcoBoost enthusiast looking to add more power and better performance to their subcompact tuner car.
