2011 to 2014 Ford F150 EcoBoost V6 Makes More Power with AEM Air Intake System
- Jun 24, 2014
The Ford Motor Company developed a line of smaller twin-turbo powered engines in the quest for more power and greater fuel efficiency. Beginning with the 2011 model year, Ford transplanted the 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 into the legendary F150 half-ton pickup truck line. This engine was previously found in front wheel drive applications such as the Ford Taurus, and Ford Explorer. The F150 was the first rear wheel drive implementation of the 3.5L EcoBoost engine. F150 power output for the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 is greatly increased over the Taurus or Explorer engines and rivals that of a V8 engine. In fact, the F150 EcoBoost is estimated to make 5 more horsepower and 40 lb-ft more torque than the renowned 5.0 V8.
A truck engine this advanced deserves an equally cutting-edge air intake system from AEM Induction Systems. The AEM 21-8126DS Brute Force Air Intake System utilizes a rotational-molded polyethylene enclosed air box and intake tube to reduce restriction and increase airflow to the engine. The enclosed air box helps to maintain near ambient inlet air temperature by retaining the use of the stock cold air inlet. Additionally, a second cold air source from behind the headlight was incorporated into the design of 21-8126DS. Both laboratory and road testing were completed to ensure the AEM Air Intake System will increase performance while staying within factory operating specifications. In addition to simply increasing horsepower, lowering restriction and increasing airflow will also reduce turbo lag and help the EcoBoost twin-turbos to spool up quicker. This in turn improves acceleration and drivability. An added benefit of the enclosed air box used in AEM Air Intake System 21-8126DS is that the air filter is shielded from debris and water encountered in on-road as well as off-road environments. Plus AEM incorporates a Filter Minder into the design of 21-8126DS, which allows the user to visually monitor air filter maintenance intervals without opening the air box. Because the stock coolant reservoir is built into the restrictive stock air box a new coolant reservoir is provided with AEM 21-8126DS. At the heart of AEM Air Intake System 21-8126DS is the relatively large and rugged AEM Dryflow Air filter, number 21-2288DK. This over-sized washable and reusable air filter is designed with AEM Dryflow synthetic air filter media. This special filtering media exhibits a three-dimensional property which allows us to achieve high airflow and low restriction without compromising high filtration levels or dirt holding capacity. AEM Dryflow air filters are simple to clean using air filter cleaner part number 1-1000 and do not require the use of oil. All of the design features of the AEM 21-8126DS Air Intake System are tuned to improve horsepower and torque delivery in the most used RPM range. On the dyno, 21-8126DS demonstrates power gains throughout the RPM range with the largest gain of an estimated 14 additional horsepower coming on at 5,800 RPM. Possibly more impressive is the new torque curve shown in dyno testing. A peak estimated torque gain of 15 pound-feet comes on at a commonly used 3,300 RPM. The AEM 21-8126DS Air Intake System is an excellent performance upgrade for your 2011 to 2014 Ford F150 equipped with the EcoBoost 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. This is a complete air intake system including all the necessary hardware and step by step installation instructions. To provide peace of mind, AEM Induction Systems stands behind its products with a Lifetime Limited Warranty. The AEM 21-8126DS Air Intake System will provide a lifetime of increased performance and excellent engine sound for the following vehicles: 2014 FORD F150 3.5L V6 AEM cold air intakes for Ford F150 models can be found on the Ford F 150 Cold Air Intakes page.
