2011-2017 3.5L V6 Ford Explorers Gain an Estimated 7 Horsepower With AEM Cold Air Intake
Feb 6, 2017
The kit consists of the DryFlow filter, heatshield, and aluminum intake tube
The 2011-2017 Ford Explorer is available with the Duratec 35, a sophisticated 3.5L V6 engine that features an aluminum engine block and cylinder heads, DOHC four valves per cylinder head, direct acting camshaft tappets, and twin-independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT). The engine produces a respectable 290 horsepower as installed in the Explorer.
Chevrolet, on the other hand, has its 3.6L LFX V6 in the Equinox, which may be perceived as a smaller vehicle than the Explorer, but the two SUVs have wheelbases that are within 0.3”. As installed in the Equinox, the LFX produces 301 horsepower – 11 horsepower more than the Duratec 35 Explorer.
Want to wipe that smug grin off your Equinox-owning neighborhood? AEM has the answer – a seven horsepower upgrade just by changing out the air intake system.
The AEM 21-767C performance cold air intake system is a free-flowing air induction system designed to replace the restrictive factory air filter and air intake tubing on some 2011 – 2017 Ford Explorer 3.5L models. The air intake system comes with a replacement AEM DryFlow air filter and a mandrel-bent aluminum intake tube featuring a durable gunmetal gray powder coated finish. The system easily connects to your vehicle’s factory engine throttle body to dramatically increase air flow into your engine. This performance cold air intake system accommodates the engine’s factory emissions control devices including the mass air flow sensor and engine vent line.
You'll smile every time you open the hood of your Explorer and see your AEM kit
AEM engineers developed the 21-767C performance cold air intake system, which they designed to improve acceleration and throttle response. The key to the AEM 21-767C performance cold air intake system is the non-woven synthetic filter media, a modern solution for controlling the quality of air that passes through it. The 7.5 inch AEM round tapered filter helps protect your engine from harmful road grit dust and dirt, and it’s mounted right at the front of the car where it can take full advantage of the cool incoming air, protected by a proprietary heat shield to keep underhood hot air out of the engine’s intake.
Installation is a relatively straightforward process that takes no more than a Saturday morning with simple hand tools just about everyone should have in their garage.
Everything needed to install your new AEM kit into your Explorer is included in the box
Your AEM 21-767C performance cold air intake system is good for around 100,000 miles (depending upon your driving conditions) between cleanings. Clean-up is easy with an application of AEM 1-1000 synthetic air filter cleaner, which will loosen and dissolve dirt and grime build up on your DryFlow filter. Then you simply rinse the filter with water and reinstall.
The performance cold air intake system is backed by AEM's Lifetime Limited Warranty.
The AEM 21-767C intake is designed to fit the following vehicles:
